This is the scariest movie I've ever seen. A friend asked if I could, without giving anything away, say whether the movie's claim of being based on true events--a claim made with little foundation by so many movies these days it's become a joke--was reasonable. I declined to answer, and I think you'll understand why if you see this movie. Director Mark Pellington proves he's a master of point of view; the main characters are a big-city journalist, a small-town police officer, and the sound track. Written by Richard Hatem, based on a book by John Keel; with Richard Gere. 119 min. Burnham Plaza, Century 12 and CineArts 6, Ford City, Gardens 1-6, Golf Glen, Lake, Lawndale, Lincoln Village 1-6, Pickwick, 600 N. Michigan, 62nd & Western, Village, Village North.
