The Nerd Closing (Theater and Galleries) Member Picks The Short List (Theater)

When: Thursdays-Sundays. Continues through Sept. 1 2013

Maybe a tighter production of this tired 1981 comedy could make a case for its contemporary appeal, but, in a two-hour rendition, Black Fox Theatre can't keep Larry Shue's painfully dated script from coming off as stale 70s-era sitcom fare, replete with door slamming and the requisite curmudgeonly aesthete-next-door (Philip Aman). To my surprise things gain some speed after intermission, through better line delivery and physical comedy—hinting at a script that, at its best, makes screwball fun of the benign stuff of human interdependence. —Suzanne Scanlon
