The Oil Factor: Behind the War on Terror

This 2004 documentary charges that the real motive behind the war on terror is the Bush administration's attempt to control global oil supplies, offering as proof a map of little-publicized new and existing U.S. military bases in the Middle East and central Asia and a retired air force colonel's statement that “American military hegemony” covers 90 percent of oil and gas resources. But directors Gerard Ungerman and Audrey Brohy don't provide much analysis, instead telling the familiar stories of the invasions of Afghanistan and Iraq. And too many of their images are simply illustrations, though shots of unreconstructed ruins in Kabul do point to U.S. promises that are still unfulfilled. 92 min.
