To the editors:

Seeing "Who's the Old Guy With the Camera?" (Sept. 30) was quite an experience when I recognized him as Paul Hansen. He lives right down the hall where two good friends of mine used to live. I was surprised at how good a photograph he takes himself. It's surprising also that he is indeed working as much as he does.

Paul has stopped by many a time to take our picture, or sit down and talk our ears off whether it be about Hollywood stars or the present state of affairs. One that he repeated several times (it must've been the time of night) was how he was sitting in a cafe long ago and saw Johnny Carson as a young man on T.V.; he couldn't believe how young he was to have his own show. Now, he says he is old and looks cross-eyed; he feels sorry for him.

Paul would get so excited talking about the many glamorous lives that he'd want to stay up, though we were ready for bed. This state of mind shows through in Vicki Quade's article. She must have spent a lot of hours with him sorting through the many stories and photos of his. He comes across as a very comprehensive person who does great works with the camera.

That he does too, we have the beautifully detailed black-and-white prints (that we bought from him) to prove it. These are pictures of ourselves not just smiling, but looking mean, or feeling like Veronica Lake or Fellini, someone.

Thanks for making my day, Reader. Again.
