The One

If a dual role doubles an actor's chance to shine, Jet Li should glow radioactive in this SF actioner. A bad cop who's sick of feeling like a number, he sets out to destroy all 123 of his alter egos in parallel universes, though whenever one dies his energy, strength, and fighting prowess are redistributed among the survivors. I was never sure whether he or one of his look-alikes had the upper hand at any given moment of the clunky showdowns—not even in the final face-off, in which one character rips open his coveralls mainly to distinguish himself from his identically dressed opponent. Writer-director James Wong also wrote Final Destination and several episodes of The X-Files with cowriter-producer Glen Morgan. 80 min.
