The Party Line

Being alone on Valentine's Day is unacceptable to the Chicago singles in this 2006 video comedy, but their dating-hotline hookups lead them into some extreme situations. Dumped by his girlfriend, an affable salesman (Derek Dow) winds up naked on his back steps, where he unavoidably catches the eye of a pretty neighbor (Natasha Parker). Before they realize they're right for each other, he goes on a double date with two uninhibited women from the projects while she has a restaurant rendezvous with a hopeless mama's boy. If the whole movie had been edited as tightly as these vignettes, it would have been funnier, though director Deri Tyton (Toot's and Blow's) juggles his large cast well, using crisp visuals and a pleasing palette. 88 min.
