The Pavilion The Short List (Theater) Recommended Closing (Theater and Galleries)

When: Fridays-Sundays. Continues through March 18 2018

If it were a rom-com, Craig Wright’s The Pavilion, a quiet little play about a desperate guy who shows up to his 20th high school reunion hoping to rekindle a lost romance, would end happily ever after. The charm of the play, though, is that Wright never indulges in such magical thinking. Instead, Peter is still the same flawed guy he was in high school, and what transpires between him and his intended Kari is, in the end, much more moving and life-affirming, at least in Jason Gerace’s graceful production. Kyle A. Gibson is great as a guy who is both jerky and charming, but it is Rebekah Ward who steals the show as the wounded, ambivalent Kari, suddenly face-to-face with a man she intensely loves and hates. —Jack Helbig
