The busy French actress Valerie Donzelli won strong reviews for her second feature as writer-director—Declaration of War (2011), in which she and Jeremie Elkaim played parents of a terminally ill child—but her goofy sensibility is much better suited to this farcical rom-com, her 2009 feature debut. She plays a weepy neurotic who goes to pieces after her boyfriend dumps her and then gets involved with a soulful artist, a shifty married man, and a disheveled but charismatic sexual adventurer. All four lovers are played by Elkaim (like Donzelli, a sculpted French beauty), and the quadruple role helps conjure up a pleasant anything-goes vibe reminiscent of the early Peter Sellers comedies. Oh, and it's a musical, its songs ranging from tolerable acoustic ballads to excruciating riffs on French pop cliches. In French with subtitles.
