Directed by Mahnaz Afzali, this no-frills 2006 video from Iran documents the bizarre, sensational trial of Shahla Jahed for killing the wife of her lover, soccer star Nasser Mohammad Khani. With its tabloid headlines, clips of TV pundits, and their repeated descriptions of Jahad's love as a “syndrome,” this sometimes feels like Access Tehran. Afzali intercuts Jahad's home videos, which show Khani sullenly responding to her incessant off-camera cooing, and portions of her trial, where, despite the existence of a videotaped confession, the defendant steadfastly maintains her innocence as she flirts and haggles with the judge. In Farsi with subtitles. 74 min.
