The Silent World

Louis Malle's first feature (1956), codirected by Jacques-Yves Cousteau, is a documentary about underwater life designed to accompany Cousteau's popular book of the same title, Le Monde du Silence. It wound up surpassing the book in terms of commercial success, winning both an Oscar for best documentary and a Palme d'Or at Cannes. In French with subtitles. 86 min.
