The Spitting Image

The fourth feature of Dutch filmmaker Fons Rademakers (1963), shot in black-and-white 'Scope by cinematographer Raoul Coutard, created a controversy when it came out because of its irreverent look at the Dutch resistance during World War II. Adapted from Willem Frederik Hermans's novella The Dark Room of Damocles, this suspense drama focuses on the adventures of a meek tobacco clerk who is enlisted by the resistance.
