The Tempel Lipizzans Recommended The Short List (Theater) Closing (Theater and Galleries)

When: Wednesdays, Saturdays, Sundays. Continues through Sept. 12 2015

The promo team for the Tempel Lipizzan horses promises their summer show will feature a flying equine, or at the very least a white stallion performing "pegasus-like leaps." This failed to happen at the performance I attended. Instead, we got to see the horse hop a few times on its hind legs. (It didn't really feel like doing a full leap, the performance manager explained to us afterward. Maybe another day.) The horses entrusted to do less dramatic forms of equine ballet were better behaved, prancing around the ring to Strauss waltzes, delicately pointing their hooves in unison just so. It's embarrassing to admit a horse dances better than you do, but there you are. Then again, Lipizzaners are like elite Russian ballet dancers, except they're horses and eat a lot more. —Aimee Levitt

Price: $25, $15 for children
