The Tin Star

Anthony Mann broke off two very fertile professional relationships—with James Stewart and screenwriter Borden Chase—in order to make this western about an aging gunfighter (Henry Fonda) who teaches a green young sheriff (Anthony Perkins) the tricks of the trade. Unfortunately, it's not one of Mann's best films—a little too talky and overstated, but not without interest. With Betsy Palmer, Neville Brand, and Lee Van Cleef (1957).
