The Tip of the Iceberg Closing (Theater and Galleries) The Short List (Theater)

When: Thursdays-Sundays. Continues through Aug. 10 2012

An affluent shopaholic, Roberta lives for the next pair of shoes. Her demented daughter, Agua, won't go anywhere without a suitcase containing a cat. And her husband, Lope, has been fucking the nanny, who also happens to be his cousin. When Lope leaves her, Roberta takes up with Oliverio, a sexy serial killer with a shoe fetish of his own. The makings of one dark and ugly farce, correct? Absolutely. But director Anneliese Moffitt fails to bring out the comedy in this script by veteran Mexican playwright Bea Carmina. The rhythm was way, way off on the night I saw it, and Armando Villegas looked just plain unprepared as Lope. Only Leah Isabel Tirado really grasped the spirit of the thing. Her Roberta is a flamboyant, engaging monstrosity. The show is presented as part of Halcyon Theatre's Alcyone Festival. —Tony Adler
