The Vagabond | Chicago Reader

The Vagabond

Indian filmmaker Raj Kapoor first began to slip social commentary into his broad, popular entertainments with this 1951 feature. A melodrama in the original sense of the term (in that the action is commented upon by music), it concerns the cast-off, illegitimate son of a powerful judge who gets his revenge many years later when his girlfriend, a lawyer, faces down his father in a sensational trial. 193 min.
