The Wonderful World of the Brothers Grimm | Chicago Reader

The Wonderful World of the Brothers Grimm

George Pal, the George Lucas of the 50s and 60s (War of the Worlds, The Power), produced and codirected this expensive fantasy, shot in the short-lived Cinerama process. Laurence Harvey and Karl Boehm (Michael Powell's Peeping Tom) star as appropriately depressive Grimm brothers (the world of the tales is anything but “wonderful”), and amid all the saccharine charm you'd expect there are some imaginative and beautifully executed moments. With Claire Bloom, Oscar Homolka, Yvette Mimieux, Jim Backus, Barbara Eden, Russ Tamblyn, Buddy Hackett, Terry-Thomas, and Beulah Bondi (1962).
