The World of George Kuchar

For more than two decades former filmmaker George Kuchar has been creating unique multilayered video diaries, casting himself as a tourist to whom all things, from the cosmic to the trivial, seem equal. Heavenly Features (2005) is in part a continuation of his long-running “Weather Diaries” series, in which he hangs out in an Oklahoma motel waiting for storms; after a hailstorm he picks up hailstones and, characteristically, a plastic egg from the grass. In Faulty Fathoms he tours a woman's collection of Frankenstein memorabilia, then cuts from her “house of horrors” to his wrecked bathroom. Underlying everything is his own isolation. 90 min.
