Who knew that The Black Stallion required a prequel? This pretty Imax feature covers the horse's early years of bonding with children and running like the wind. A young Arab girl (Biana Tamimi) lost in the desert is saved by the mysterious wild stallion. She seeks to restore her family's fortune by entering him in a race, but her grandfather (Richard Romanus) disapproves. The 45-minute running time makes this feel a bit like the outline of a longer film, but it's an engaging use of the large screen. Directed by Simon Wincer. G.
