The Zen of Bennett

84 minutes 2012

Pleasant but uninspiring, this black-and-white profile of Tony Bennett shows the lionized singer reflecting on his long career, cutting new tracks in the studio, and offering advice to a number of younger performers (among them Norah Jones and John Mayer). There are no great revelations here, but the ample performance footage looks fantastic; cinematographer Dion Beebe (who's shot movies for Jane Campion and Michael Mann) demonstrates greater taste and nuance than one normally encounters in video-shot music documentaries. Unjoo Moon directed.
