Though hamstrung by technical difficulties the night I attended, this uneven collection of monologues, scenes, and short films by four writers at the Freshwater Theater Company would have lacked cohesion under the best of circumstances. Individual pieces don't do much better considered on their own. Short, straight horror monologues fail to frighten; the scenes are full of gallows-humor jokes that fall flat; and the projected bits, though edgier, are completely obscure. Lauren N. Goode, Dave Strong, and Molly McVay do some plucky work with this often leaden material, but at one point or another the writing makes them look bad too. Faintly directed by Erin Riley. Through 10/29: Thu-Sat 8 PM. National Pastime Theater, 4139 N. Broadway, 773-387-7063. $15; industry nights Thu.
