There Might Be . . . Stumble The Short List (Theater) Closing (Theater and Galleries)

When: Tuesdays, Wednesdays. Continues through July 1 2015

Most of the ten comic playlets written by Richard Paro for this Indie Boots Theatre production depict crises of faith. A trash-talking jogger loses her confidence, a Bible study group is revealed to contain no true believers, two movie stars find they can no longer stomach the celebrity-industrial complex, and so on. In the remaining sketches, free spirits (including drunken revelers and aggressive nudists) needle their uptight friends and roommates. Once a pattern is established, Paro declines to vary it. No matter the scene’s premise—and many of them start out promisingly—we’re nearly always in for a long, fed-up speech by the end of it. The cast’s considerable verve doesn’t quite make up for the fact that they keep repeating themselves. —Zac Thompson
