Thirsty: The Premiere Improv Drinking Game The Short List (Theater)

When: Saturdays. Continues through Dec. 18 2010

Like other local productions that celebrate and encourage drinking--both onstage and in the audience--this Strippers' Picnic show benefits from a loose, playful vibe, but is also limited by it. The imbibing performers (each week a couple guests join in, too) looked authentically drunk by the end of the show I saw, though they admirably held their own. Guided by host Neil O'Callaghan, they play a lot of short-form improv games--like the one where two cast members act a scene in gibberish while two others translate--many of which provide can't-miss laughs. The pacing gets too casual and the expectations too low to allow for the possibility of showstopping comedy. But with a drink in hand, this is a fun time. --Ryan Hubbard
