This, That, and the Other Thing! New Review (Theater and Comedy) The Short List (Theater) Image Closing (Theater and Galleries)

When: Saturdays. Continues through April 28 2018

Playwright Mike Brayndick gets philosophical in a trio of short plays—Fragments From the Permanent Collection, Only You Could Think That, That Is That—loosely centered on meet-cutes and tangential existential musings. The most scrutable of the three is Only You Could Think That, in which a whimsical barista (Regina Barry) serves up pun-based beverages that wink at classical thinkers to a customer who specializes in amplifying minor crises into major ones (Marla Seidell). Regardless of length, the other two feel more like skits than plays, one about heady introverts meeting in an arts gallery, and the other about . . . yelling, I think? Though all three vary in clarity, muted emotional impact is a constant across the board. —Dan Jakes
