Those Wonderful Years That Sucked

The growth of a writer born in Czechoslovakia in the early 60s is set against the decline of his father, an engineer threatened with demotion for appearing unenthusiastic about communism. Gracefully leaping broad gaps in time as it depicts the beleaguered men's relationships with women and politics, this allegorical comedy spans a generation and strikes a glorious balance between humor and social criticism. Petr Nikolaev directed a screenplay by Jan Novak, based on a novel by Michal Viewegh; with Libuse Safrankova, Ondrej Vetchy, and Jakub Wehrenberg.
