Tightrope | Chicago Reader

A rare washout for Clint Eastwood, who stars in this 1984 thriller about a New Orleans cop who discovers some disturbing parallels between his own sexual kinks and those of the killer he's tracking down. The premise isn't half bad, but it doesn't get developed very far: first-time director Richard Tuggle (the screenwriter of Escape From Alcatraz) dilutes it in a number of trite, conventionally conceived action sequences—old ideas he both overplays and overprolongs. At moments, Eastwood can even be caught overacting, an event as rare as Halley's Comet. With Genevieve Bujold, Dan Hedaya, and Alison Eastwood.
