To Each Her Own

Very little rings true in this drab Canadian drama about a young Web entrepreneur (Hannah Hogan) in an unhappy marriage. Her husband (Shaughnessy Redden) is obsessed with her having a baby but improbably forgiving when she takes up with a lesbian landscaper (Tracy Rae), who's previously specialized in one-night stands. The dialogue ranges from stilted to outright painful, the parental characters are either broad-minded or blindly homophobic, and the heroine forfeits our sympathy with her many lies. Originally titled Dammed—a reference to the lead character's suppressed feelings—this is an embarrassment for writer-director Heather Tobin. 128 min.
