Trans | Theater Critic's Choice | Chicago Reader

Nonnarrative elements enrich the story line of this evocative feature, which follows a Florida juvenile-detention-center escapee as he attempts to get to Colorado or just stay free. Deceptively casual cinematography and acting confer a documentary feel on daringly scored sequences, as what could have been a hyperdramatic story becomes layered and meditative: deftly integrated minor characters, a gently charged atmosphere, and little psychodrama allow writer-director Julian Goldberger to create a compelling perspective for the main character almost by default. With Ryan Daugherty. A presentation of the Chicago Underground Film Festival and Columbia College. Columbia College Ferguson Theater, 600 S. Michigan, Friday, November 19, 7:00 and 8:30, 773-327-3456.
