Jason Statham returns as the black-market conveyor for hire in this disappointing sequel to Cory Yuen's The Transporter (2002). Scripted by Robert Mark Kamen (Gladiator) and coproducer Luc Besson, it recycles the premise of the Denzel Washington vehicle Man on Fire, with Statham chauffeuring a privileged youngster and then shifting into payback mode after the boy is kidnapped. Yuen has moved over to the fight choreography here, and the direction suffers under Louis Leterrier (Unleashed). The original movie's lean production complemented its pell-mell fights and car chases; here, third-rate CG effects make the strained action sequences look even more improbable. With Matthew Modine, Amber Valletta, and Kate Nauta. PG-13, 88 min.
