Travesties of Justice

To the editors:

I read your article on the so-called "justice" that goes on at 26th and California ["Halls of Justice," January 8]. As a relative of someone recently killed, I know firsthand that there is no consideration for the victims of a crime, much less their survivors.

Case in point: Three days after the man was sentenced (to a mere three years), my family received a form letter officially informing us of the conviction. The letter was addressed to the dead victim.

Jack O'Malley, this letter had your name on it. WAKE UP!!! Stop playing the numbers game and get your people straightened out. Mistakes like these are unacceptable and insensitive to family members who feel the system let them down.
