True Confessions

Robert De Niro, his face puffed out with saintly effeminacy, is an ambitious priest in the LA diocese of the 40s; Robert Duvall is his brother, a homicide cop with a shady past. Produced by Robert Chartoff and Irwin Winkler, written by Joan Didion and John Gregory Dunne, the film looks like an attempt to make a Martin Scorsese movie without Martin Scorsese. Ulu Grosbard, Broadway heavy and sometime filmmaker (Straight Time), directed. With Burgess Meredith, Charles Durning, Ed Flanders, Cyril Cusack, and Kenneth McMillan (1981).
