Trust and Confidence The Short List (Theater)

When: Thursdays. Continues through Aug. 1 2013

There's no time like the present to take a shot at the incompetence of government agencies—but even attempts at the easiest targets can occasionally miss. In the Annoyance's latest, a satirical musical about a buffoonish branch of the Secret Service, too much friendly fire ends up being the play's undoing. Case in point: a member of the "quail team"—the motley crew on which Charlie Worth's show focuses—attempts to woo his emotionally dead boss with the line "You say get back to work / I just want to take you out for pork." At just over an hour, Trust and Confidence is mercifully short, but so are the odds of another "Secret Service musical" rolling through town anytime soon. —Hannah Gold
