Twenty Years Later

In 1964 Brazilian filmmaker Eduardo Coutinho began work on a feature about Joao Pedro Texeira, an assassinated peasant leader. But with the military overthrow of the government, the shooting was stopped and all of the footage was seized. This 1984 feature is about Coutinho's attempts to pick up the project two decades later in a new political context: footage from the original film is intercut with interviews with the surviving members of the original cast, testifying to the changes brought about by 20 years of military rule. Also known as A Man Marked for Death.
