Two Rooms Closing (Theater and Galleries) New Review (Theater and Comedy) The Short List (Theater)

When: Thursdays-Saturdays. Continues through Aug. 25 2012

When an American professor is taken hostage in Lebanon, his grief-stricken wife back home turns his study into her own private detention cell as a way of connecting and communing with him. Her reverie is periodically interrupted by a nosy reporter pressuring her to speak out and a pitiless State Department official ordering her to stay mum. Though playwright Lee Blessing makes no secret of his disdain for U.S. foreign policy, he treats all sides with fairness and compassion in this 1988 script. James Teague's low-key staging for Pandemonium Theatre Group suffers from a lack of tension. Reed Motz and Allison Williams convey a muted, almost lethargic sadness as the husband and wife at the center of things, completely missing the characters' fear and desperation. —Zac Thompson
