When: Tuesdays, 9 p.m. Continues through July 4 2014

Gorilla Tango's Improv Zoo, where students flaunt their chops under instructor supervision, is like improv immersion: the foreign country is the stage, and the foreign language is being funny in front of an audience. The show has three parts: the girl team drops a nest of sketches, the guy team does something long-form, then both outfits join for a final session. The whole shebang lasts 50 minutes. The improv style isn't as "untamed" as billed, though it can be frivolous and unwieldy. And while the gendered division of labor may have pedagogical value, there's no discernible payoff in comic relief. Nitpicking aside, it's $2 for a seat and $2 for a beer. The chance to encourage your fellow man as he tries to sire levity in this beastly world? Priceless. —Jena Cutie
