Alberto San Juan won the Goya (Spain's Oscar) for his lead performance in this dyspeptic 2007 drama, as a struggling jazz trumpeter. Reluctant to leave Madrid for his father's funeral, but standing to inherit property with his recovering alcoholic brother (Julian Villagran), he heads home to Navarre, where he quickly antagonizes the locals. The protagonist is too selfish to like; his interest in the withdrawn daughter of an old flame says more about his own need for affirmation than his concern for another person. But the edgy style of director Felix Viscarret mirrors the bravado of his antihero, who's tempted by the notion of family after years of rootlessness. In Spanish with subtitles. 107 min.
