Universoul Circus New Review (Theater and Comedy) Opening (Theater and Galleries) Recommended The Short List (Theater)

When: Thu., Oct. 3 2013

The Universoul Circus may not be the Greatest Show on Earth, but it is, for the moment, the greatest show in Washington Park. (It moves to Union Park on 10/10.) And if you're looking for an old-school one-ring circus under a real big top, it has everything you could possibly want: elephants, tigers, acrobats, magicians, tightrope walkers, and death-defying stunts. Almost all the performers are African-American, and the show has a hip-hop beat that distinguishes it from Ringling Bros. or Cirque du Soleil: pop-and-locking stilt walkers and a tribute to Michael Jackson, complete with moonwalk, on the high wire. The tent's small enough so everyone has a good view of the action, and there are free elephant rides during intermission. You could do much worse for an afternoon at the circus. —Aimee Levitt
