This feeble exercise in brain-teaser noir (e.g. Memento) stars James Caviezel, Barry Pepper, Greg Kinnear, Jeremy Sisto, and Joe Pantoliano as five men who wake up in various postures of distress inside an abandoned factory. A gas leak has robbed them of their memory, and although some brutal conflict was clearly in progress when they lost consciousness, none of them can remember it. The premise is rich with irony and even comedy—the characters are united by their need to figure out why they hate each other—but screenwriter Matthew Waynee takes the most prosaic route, turning this into a whodunit. Or to be more precise, whodunwhat. Simon Brand directed; with Peter Stormare and Bridget Moynahan. 98 min.
