At the Chicago stop of the U.S. Air Guitar Championships tour, each first-round contestant will perform to one minute of a song of his or her choosing; then judges choose who advances to a final round, where competitors have to wing it to a surprise song. The local winner will be flown to a yet-to-be-determined city for the national finals; the U.S. champ goes to the world championships in Oulu, Finland. It’s $20 to enter and you must be 21+. The Chicago slate was “nearly full” at press time, but “if you can demonstrate evidence of significant airness, you may send us evidence [at email@example.com] in order to request entry.” Otherwise the promoters suggest entering a regional in Omaha, Kansas City, or Minneapolis.
