Ustad Kadar Khan

Ustad (Master Guru) Kadar Khan has amazed Indian radio and television audiences with the dexterity and musicality of his tabla playing for years, but this concert marks only his second trip to America. He studied with his father, Ustad Rehman Khan, from the age of 9, began winning awards at 16, and now astounds rival tabla artists by expertly improvising on request in any regional style and pattern they can name. He'll be joined on sitar in this rare appearance by his countryman Patric Marks, well known in Chicago for his teaching and direction of the Indian Music Ensemble; and by composer/operatic mezzo Gwendolyn Manter Seminara, who will improvise with the pair in a style that blends East and West. Tonight, 8 PM, Ferguson Theater, Columbia College, 600 S. Michigan; 283-0531.
