Based in Maine, Herbcraft are an amorphous collective anchored by New England psych-scene stalwart Matt Lajoie, who’s played with MV & EE and solo under the name Cursillistas; they do pretty much everything you’d want a psychedelic band called “Herbcraft” to do. Their third album is called The Astral Body Electric (Woodsist), and its six extended semi-improvised songs—with titles including “Mothers Gate (Shambhala)” and “A Knock at the Door in Your Mind”—are made from droning organ, celestially twanging electric guitar, and washes of meditative vocals that have a powerfully transporting effect even on sober listeners. It’s the musical equivalent of watching someone taking a massive bong hit and then blow a perfect dream catcher out of smoke. —Miles Raymer Verma headlines; Herbcraft and Ono (collaborating with Piss Piss Piss Moan Moan Moan and Plastic Crimewave) open. Herbcraft also plays an in-store at Permanent Records at 6 PM.
