Video Remains

Woven around the video footage Alex Juhasz taped of her friend Jim recalling his life as he was dying of AIDS in 1993 is footage of an HIV support group and a demonstration and interviews with other friends and acquaintances, including one with her hairdresser discussing his singing-coach mentor. The form is well suited to fragmentary remembrances, but the interviews suggest that sex, clothes, Broadway shows, and HIV are the main interests of gay men: Jim begins with a sometimes sniveling monologue about his family members, then moves on to the different hats he wore while singing show tunes and the “great pair of sunglasses” he just bought. 54 min.
