Vincent Grenier: Tabula Rasa

Tabula Rasa (2004), the highlight of this program by the French-Canadian experimentalist, is an impressionistic portrait of a decaying urban high school, the soundtrack dense with background noise and the images of chipped paint and rusted equipment suggesting abstract art. More purely abstract are While Resolved (1976) and Interieur Interiors (1978), whose pared-down imagery consists of interacting light and shadow. All three of these were shot on 16-millimeter, but there are also three digital works from 2011: Back View, Tableaux Vivants, and Armoire (4 Parts). Total running time is approximately 80 minutes.
