Voice of the Amazon

A Brazilian documentary by Geoffrey O'Connor, in Portuguese with an English voice-over, about the efforts of rubber tapper Chico Mendes to preserve the Amazon rain forest (1990). On the same program, Contact: The Yanomami Indians of Brazil (1990), O'Connor's half-hour short about the death of 1,500 Yanomami Indians as a result of contact with Brazilian gold miners, made in collaboration with French anthropologist Bruce Albert and narrated by Roy Scheider.
