If your heart does flips over nonsensical, morphine-induced journeys to nowhere, then search no further–Cock and Bull’s Voyage is your play. But those craving cohesive plot and direction will find themselves stumped. This new company-devised work directed by Chris Garcia Peak gets the visual but totally confounds the storytelling, going back and forth between 1799 and 1969 without ever really providing us a foundation for why. It might have just a slight something to do with the way it originated, sketched out by Peak while on a morphine drip. One interesting plotline is revisited repeatedly—two women, two centuries apart, suffer abuse as a result of wonky attitudes toward medicine and psychosis–but any deeper meaning gets lost amid confusing subplots concerning sex and science. Voyage we do. Arrival's a different story. —Chloe Riley
