Waiting for Dublin

Disjointed and insipid, this 2007 comedy about World War II flyboys never comes close to taking off. In the closing months of the war against Hitler, an American fighter pilot (lightweight Andrew Keegan) and his British copilot (Hugh O'Conor) make a forced landing in neutral Ireland, where some quaint, daffy townsfolk shelter them until a Dublin policeman can arrive to take over. Also marking time in the village is an AWOL Luftwaffe ace, who improbably agrees to let Keegan shoot down his plane so that the American can win a high-stakes bet he made about his military prowess. Adding to this pile-up of contrivances is the romance between Keegan and a marriage-minded Irish lass (Jade Yourell); together they're as combustible as wet matches. TV veteran Roger Tucker directed. 84 min.
