W.A.R. (Wake-up. Attack. Repeat.)

When: Fridays, Saturdays. Continues through Aug. 21 2010

There's potential in this show by the Lords of Hell. Five actors interact with rod and hand puppets in a series of sketches with generally offbeat, sometimes edgy premises: two veiled Muslim women on a giggly shopping spree, Anne Frank kvetching about her sister's sexual relationship with attic-mate Peter, a kindergarten class divided between Santa Claus worshippers and followers of the Easter bunny, a ventriloquist wrestling with his attraction to his dummy. ("You've got wood for my wood," she chides him.) One scene reworks Abbott and Costello's classic "Who's on First?" routine for two teens planning to shoot up their high school. But the set-ups are often squandered in awkward delivery and heavy-handed dialogue that relies on profanity and yelling rather than wit. If you want to see Shari Lewis's Lamb Chop ask, "Can I suck your dick?" this is the show for you. --Albert Williams
