Warm on the Coolin' Board Member Picks The Short List (Theater) Recommended Closing (Theater and Galleries)

When: Thursdays-Sundays. Continues through Nov. 24 2013

"The city don't want us here," observes Brian, echoing what's perhaps a common sentiment in Roseland, the neighborhood where Shepsu Aakhu's new play is partly set. Social and economic forces are driving black residents from the city in droves, and Aakhu takes a poignant look at the psychic impact of this displacement. Brian and his brother Day are scrappers, mining Roseland's growing supply of abandoned buildings for pipes and wiring. Their scenes are sharply executed under director Marie Cisco. A parallel story set in the afterlife suffers from fuzzy plotting, but ultimately offers a powerful articulation of Aakhu's key questions. —Keith Griffith
