This Caribbean Mouse That Roared just misses, thanks to some uneven casting and Dick Clement's too-emphatic direction, but it has several pleasant moments and a generally amiable spirit. Michael Caine is the British governor of tiny, windswept, rocky Cascara, a colony forgotten in London until an American oil company strikes an unexpected reserve of high-grade mineral water; Caine must fight off three rapacious national governments (the French feel a threat to their own industry, and send in a guerrilla squad to destroy the strike) while finding a way to claim independence for the island. With Valerie Perrine, Brenda Vaccaro, Leonard Rossiter, and a guest appearance by George Harrison (whose company, Handmade Films, produced the picture).
