The Wavefront Music Festival is built on a very simple premise: putting together a bunch of world-class DJs on Montrose Beach and letting people party their asses off for an entire weekend. Like the two-day lineup Wavefront assembled for its debut last year, 2013's three-day roster is a reasonably broad reflection of dance-music tastes on the city's north side. Old-school aficionados will be happy to see the likes of Frankie Knuckles, Derrick Carter, and Jamie Principle in respectable slots, while Gold Coast bottle-service clubgoers should be satisfied with the inclusion of veteran superstar DJs Fatboy Slim, Bad Boy Bill, and Danny Tenaglia. (They may also be the only folks ponying up for the three-day "Platinum Cabana" package, which costs $32,000 for 18 people.) For the Congress Theater rave scenester Wavefront has booked Rusko and Caspa, who are largely responsible for dubstep's current neon hue, as well as Justice (whose recent live album, Access All Arenas, is a triumph in that moribund format) and Diplo. And for dance-music hipsters who fancy their tastes more refined, James Murphy and his former LCD Soundsystem bandmates Nancy Whang and Pat Mahoney will provide deep crate-digging DJ sets, while upstart producer Nicolas Jaar should add some minimalist techno cool to what's likely to be an overheated environment.
