Way Out There

Showing as part of the Film Center's current indie comedy series, these eight films and videos mostly belie the program title, shooting at barn-door-sized targets like Trekkies and the Boy Scouts from point-blank range. Two notable exceptions are T. Arthur Cottam's Beer Goggles (5 min.), about a trio of country boys painted into a fatal corner by their own homophobia, and Steve Harold and Kurt Christiansen's zestfully tasteless Bum Runner (9 min.), in which the theft of a shopping cart by two homeless men triggers a slapstick chase reminiscent of the early Three Stooges two-reelers. 87 min.
